Miss Information is annoyed by librarians...you know who you are

Let's talk about toner cartridges, people. Changing them isn't brain surgery. Learn how to do it for god's sake!

Oh, that whole shake up the cartridge and stick it back in the machine manoeuver works a couple of times but when the printer starts spewing out stuff that is half grey and half white, it is time to write an obit for that cartridge.

Also, would it be too much to ask that when you're shaking up that toner cartridge you make a mental note to LOCATE AND BRING A NEW CARTRIDGE TO THE DESK? Obviously, we're going to need one. Why not think ahead?

Bastards.

What Miss Information thought about in Corpse Pose
Miss Information suddenly realized that she actually can tell the difference between a tracking shot and a pan. This almost makes up for her not being able to figure out whether those shots of Kevin Costner in the Union Station sequence of the Untouchables are close ups or medium close ups. Thoughts, anyone?

as a librarian i feel like i have to defend myself. we don't know how to do these little silly things that we should know how to because no one ever shows us. it's a lame excuse i know but think about it. you were at one time i'm sure shown how to change the toner and because as you say it is not brain surgery you then knew how to do it. no one takes the time to show us these things. i have been at my branch for one year and i do not know how to log in to the debit machine. not because i'm an idiot (i used to be a cashier for many years. i'm sure i could handle it.) but because no one has ever thought to show me and every time i ask a clerk to show me they somehow conveniently have something else to do and then forget.

I would like to point out that if you know how to pull the toner cartridge out, shake it(hopefully over a waste basket)and put it back in again you should know how to change it too. :)

I'm not a librarian. I do work for the library. I'm constantly being asked to do things no one has shown me and I figure them out.

And sometimes the official training can be a competency kiss of death. For years, all of the full-time, trained staff asked me to fix all the paper jams in the micro machines, because I was the only one who could figure it out. Now that I'm a full-timer too, and "worth" training, I can no longer recall what actually works and what we're merely supposed to do, and frequently have to enlist the support of "menials", who haven't had their brains tampered with.

I'll say in the defense, that while I am able to change a cartridge, if need be, the librarians are actually forbidden here from doing anything with the printers other than adding paper, and if they (the IT glamourous flyboys) could take that away from us too, they would. So, it is an onerous process of making a call to have them grace us with their presence to bring us toner.

Believe me, if I could change it, I would. BUt here, trusting us with the cartridges would imply that someone actually thinks we can do something (but that is another story).

I thought of you today when I changed the cartridge in the printer.

I do everything.

Except clean up pee. I will not do that.

I do everything, because some of my coworkers don't know how. i.e. PowerPoint presentations, MS Publisher, put new tape in the tape dispensers, add paper to the copier, and change lightbulbs in the reading room.

I do these things because I can, and because I worry that they will never be done if I don't do them.

ahhh. Come work with me. At least we could entertain one another.

Your posts constantly make me laugh, and I identify strongly with many of your side splitting stories.

rock on miss information!

xo,
WDL
